Toni Ketelä has the last years been one of the most successful Finnish sprint cross-country skiers. In the World Championship 2013 he was 8th and in 2015 he was 10th. Both races was classic style sprint. This season 2015–16 Ketelä is part of Finland’s sprint cross-country skiing A team. He has the Lahti World Championships 2017 and the Pyeongchang Olympic Games 2018 in his sights. His goal is clear: a major championships medal.

Last season I trained 730 hours, this season I will add a substantial amount of training hours. I am aiming for about 850 hours. I have also done more free style cross-country ski training than last season.

During summer I mostly rollerski, I do Nordic walking uphill, run, train in the gym or cycle. In the winter time almost all my training is on skis. I also train in the gym and do some leap training with ice studded running shoes.

I  have done more normal endurance sport training, i.e.  lots of long running sessions and muscle endurance improvement exercises. During autumn training has changed to be more speed and performance developing.


My long term goal is a championship medal in the Lahti World Championships 2017 or the Pyeongchang Olympic Games 2018. This season’s goal is to do well in the World Cup. In classic sprint the goal is podium places and in skate style sprint the goal is to qualify.
